What is the Saline Network?

The Saline Network is a mandate-governed L1 blockchain with built-in cross-chain interoperability. Thanks to its fully-featured flavour of intents (i.e. not just swaps or limit orders), it is the first implementation of verification-based computing.

Managing Assets The Right Way

Saline is designed and built so that users can manage their assets in the most powerful, intuitive and logical way we could think of. The core idea revolves around user-supplied rules (that we call "mandates") that are attached to their assets (wallets) and live in the chain itself: everything is native, first-class; no third-party integration is needed, and everyone remains in full custody of their assets.

Simplicity at the Core

Thanks to our simple yet powerful set of primitives, chain interactions can be done with simple python, our in-wallet graphical drag-and-drop based UI. Creating those rules is almost as simple as stating them in English. Building custom agents becomes close to trivial as they are able to read and grasp the core concepts immediatelly.

No Smart Contracts

Smart Contracts are a relic of the past: they were born when the purely "managing ledger" nature of blockchain was not enough anymore and users needed to be able to perform "actions". Smart Contracts were then invented and essentially hijacked the validation process by having every single validator execute the list of instructions of the Contract to come to the same conclusion (the same way validators executed a transfer to update the ledger state and come to agreement).

The Saline network was built with the insight and experience of 15 years of crypto; the logic necessary for users to "perform actions" is built into the chain itself directly, and as such: Saline does not have Smart Contracts (because it doesn't need to!).
